Backup from 4.29 for 6.0

Added by Christian Pohl over 8 years ago

Hello Community,

I have some old backup(openproject run backup) from an 4.29 Version of Openproject.

As I wanted to take a look in the old data, I was trying to install Version 4 again on some server. I ended up installing Version 6, as I couldn’t find any Version 4 Packages for Ubuntu.

As far as I can see, there is no way to get the old backup into the new Version right?

If I am wright with this, can someone tell me, if there is still a Package of Version 4 somewhere available?

Thanks in advance
Christian

Hi Christian,

you wouldn’t need to install the old OP version to take a look into the old data. If you import the db dump into the db you are going to use for OP, the installer should migrate that Data to a OP 6 compatible schema so you should be able to take a look at the data with the current OP version.

For most scenarios, that should suffice.

Regards

Jens

A normal import after doesnt work. Do you mean to update from 4 to 6?

Ok but where to get the old version from?

I only can locate the Version 5 Packages on Github.

Christian

Hi Christian,

you don’t need to.

Fetch the current (6.1) and install it. Just use the database where you dumped the old data to when installing.

Hi Jens,
After installing the latest version of OP, how can we use the database of the older version (4.2.9) in this case

Thanks

Hi Pavlos,

once you’re installing OpenProject 6, your old installation will be automatically migrated and should not take any manual interaction.

If you’re using the packaged installer, install the last stable version of OpenProject (currently 6.1.4) using the stable/6 release channel.

Follow the installation guide at https://www.openproject.org/open-source/download/packaged-installation-guide/

The wizard will ask you to select an existing MySQL database in the wizard. The guide also shows you how to add an existing Postgres database.

Best,
Oliver
