Is it possible to change an existing Account to saml authentication?

Is it possible to change an existing Account to saml authentication?

We have set up saml authentication against our own saml provider but it always tries to create a new account for the user.

So my question would be is it possible to change an existing account authentication to saml. From internal to LDAP works easy with the gui, but for saml I’m lost.

Any tips or tricks are appreciated
