packaged installation - which version? no notification?

Added by T Küchel about 10 years ago

Hi there,

I’m a bit pissed confused about the installation procedure procedure (yes I mean that).

I used to install “openproject” on an ubuntu system using: https://deb.packager.io/gh/opf/openproject as the source as documented.

Now I upgraded, want to file a bug report about SSL not working out for the newest 4.0.7 installation, but, alas, the installation procedure [[https://www.openproject.org/download/packaged-installation-community/]] is changed to use
“openproject-ce” from https://deb.packager.io/gh/finnlabs/pkgr-openproject-community

Well, what now?

  • I suggest that there should be an automatic (email based) way to get a notification about what is going on. (Project where I can subscribe to, mailing list, you have it).
  • I seriously test (and bug-report) every update and installation using the ubuntu-packaged version, but cannot do so, if the recommended way is not clear to me.
  • Is “openproject” from deb.packager.io/gh/opf/openproject outdated? Why is it still packaged?
  • Is there a migration way to “openproject-ce” or do I have to reinstall and migrate the data?

Htanks for any help appreciated.

T.Küchel

Hi T.Küchel,

first of all: thanks for testing OpenProject. We really appreciate it.

Now concerning your questions:

  • We have two packages: the core (called openproject) and an edition with our most used plugins (called openproject-ce). You can still use the ‘openproject’ package and it will be updated. Maybe that solves this problem? Even if that helps you, some things seem to be not clear enough and maybe we could improve our documentation. Could you help us by specifying how this confusion came up?
  • You proposed an email notification service. What scope should that have? Do want to be informed about anything that happens with a package? Maybe we could think of something like this.
  • Do you want to migrate from openproject to openproject-ce? It should be possible but I can run a small test for you.
  • And finally, I just tried to run the bundle-command in a fresh install on ubuntu and everything worked fine. Maybe I didn’t get the same setting as you got. Could you specify some more, in what circumstances this SSL problem occurs? Thanks for that!

So all in all thanks for your effort. I hope I could help you a bit.

Cheers,

Jonas
