Dodgy installation due to missing first letters?

Added by Hiran Chaudhuri over 10 years ago

I just tried to install OpenProject, and it seems to work but is unusable as I cannot see the first letters (and sometimes some letters inbetween) of words.

This happened

- on a freshly installed Ubuntu 14.04 with the package install procedure for the OpenProject core version

- on a freshly installed Ubuntu 14.04 with the package install procedure for the OpenProject CE version
- on the OpenProject vmdk created by Nitnami

I saw the comment in the FAQ to precompile stuff when you see artefacts but do not know which directory to run the command in. The error message I get is that the rakefile is not found.
And ultimately, when logging into the forum here I see that also this forum shows the same behaviour.

Is it only me? Is it my browser? I cleared the cache, but that does not help.
Attached is a screenshot.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Hi Hiran,

taking a look at your screenshot, it seems to indicate that the problem is not only limited to your installation but also applies when you visit community.openproject.org. Therefore I guess what you are witnessing is the same problem other users are reporting:

We are currently trying to fix the LATO font used in OpenProject and hope to have the bug removed soon. Reproducing this is kind of hard so I have some questions for you:

  • What OS/Browser (+Versions please) are you using to visit community.openproject.org?
  • What version of OP have you installed?

Kind regards

Jens

Hello, Jens.

Client

  • I have Windows Vista Home Basic SP2, 64bits in German language
  • My browser is Firefox, it automatically updated to version 34.0.5. Obviously german as well.

Server

  • For my Ubuntu 14.04 tests in VirtualBox 4.3.10r93012 I installed OpenProject and OpenProject CE, the latter with version 4.0.4-1418737451.686d3f9.trusty.
  • The Bitnami install shows OpenProject 4.0.4 on MySQL 2.

Now I also tested OpenProject using the client of the Ubuntu installation. Although set to german, Firefox 34.0 does not show the dodgy behaviour I see from Windows.
I can understand it is not easy to reproduce. I’m sorry for the inconvenience.

I just received Firefox 35.0.1 and tested this site again.
Now I can read all the characters. The update seems to have fixed the issue. :-)
