Timestamps in logfiles

I am debugging plugin (gitolite) installation and find the lack of timestamps in logfiles rather confusing. Is there some configuration option to have them added? Something like what syslog does:

Jan  5 05:01:01 s18015955 CRON[19937]: (root) CMD (cd / && run-parts --report /etc/cron.hourly)
