Preferred/Recommended Installation options
Added by Alex Spencer over 10 years ago
Hi,
I’ve tried searching the forum and the installation guide - I can’t seem to find the “recommended” or at least most common installation setup for a production instance of OpenProject.
We already have a CentOS server - and as these are virtual we could easily create another.
What would the developers recommend on this - what was it built for? Ubuntu is an option, but IT may well say that CentOS is the only option.
Thanks,
Alex.

Hi Alex,
the OpenProject installation is pretty similar on CentOS and Ubuntu (some of the required packages may have different names, though). Karol contributed a CentOS installation guide, which you find here.
Apart from that, we are currently working on installation packages for debian (ubuntu), centos, fedora and the like.
I cannot promise you a time when the work is done (this is a best effort thing at the moment).
You can preview an OpenProject installation (for debian) in this video: https://asciinema.org/a/10717 . Cyril (the founder of packager.io) does a pretty good job in enhancing the OpenProject installation.
We’re considering to make the package installation the default installation method for OpenProject. The cumbersome manual installation is hopefully a thing of the past when we’re done with this work.
cheers,
