Cannot import .xlsx-document to OpenProject via OpenProjectAPI
Added by Gernot Just about 2 years ago
Hello, everyone,
unfortunately I have to do the work of my sick colleague, but I have no idea about Project, OpenProject etc.
I have the OpenProjectAPI and the customer file (.xlsx) with data for a test run before the customer wants to switch completely to OpenProject.
In this OpenProjectAPI, according to the configuration mask, I have filled in the URL (located locally on the customer's OpenProject server), the instance URL and the project field is filled in automatically, since the information is taken from the URL.
The project is therefore created on the OpenProject web application, which is located locally on the customer server, but is empty.
After entering the API token and clicking accept, everything loads and I get the workpackages window. If I now want to upload the content of the information provided by the customer as a work package, this does not work.
Care was taken to ensure that the items "Update status", "Lock Version", "ID" and "Subject" are included in the OpenProjectAPI.
If I click on Upload, it loads first and gives me the message "Search character (parent)".
Since it is a new creation, I have no information and click Cancel, the message "Project not found or no access. Abort" follows.
Unfortunately, I don't know what I'm doing wrong so that I can upload the data.
The Excel list from the customer is a task schedule, so there are Subject, Project, Duration, Start date, Finish Date, Parent, Author, Status and Progress.
Maybe you can give me a tip on where I have to pay attention to, unfortunately I couldn't find anything about this error message and I'm at my wits end.
Many thanks and best regards.

Hi Gernot,
please could you clarify with your customer if they have an OpenProject Enterprise Subscription or if they are planning to have one in the future?
The developers could help you for sure with this task most likely in that case. Otherwise there is a lot about an API that people have to learn, I also cannot use it really much alone myself.
I hope I could guide you in a good direction.
Kind regards, Adam
Hi Adam,
thank you for your quick response.
First of all, the customer wants to test it, because in the past, they used an Microsoft Project licence, which seems to be illegal, so they want a legal one.
But the price of the legal one is much higher than the usage of the project, so they want an alternative.
My colleague suggested an OpenProject and want to let the customer test it before the decide to change to OpenProject.
In my opinion there is a huge potential to switch to OpenProject, but without a test of it, they cannot decide.
I have to tell the customer, that we have to wait for my colleague. Maybe he can import the file of the customer. =)
Thank you and best regards.

I think there is no need to hurry in our world :) never!
