OP 12.2. => RECOMPILE_ANGULAR_ASSETS fails with self signed certificate in certificate chain

After we updated our installation from 12.1.6 to 12.2 our users got error 500 messages on every activity site. On another OP forum entry we read about that we must set RECOMPILE_ANGULAR_ASSETS to true and use openproject configure. This failes with message request to https://registry.npmjs.org/fsevents failed, reason: self signed certificate in certificate chain. Ho we can enable the bundled npm to allow self signed certificates?
