How to access OpenProject via a subdomain?
Added by Peter Verkooijen about 5 years ago
I think I have successfully installed OpenProject on my server/VPS, but cannot wrap my head around how to access/use the application through the browser.
I want to use OpenProject on a subdomain, like https://mywebsite.com/openproject - How can I do that? Are there instructions for this case somewhere?
I think all instruction and automatic installation options assume you install the application on https://myopenprojectsite.com ? I have one VPS with several related websites and management scripts.

When you install openproject it will automatically generate an Apache config file called openproject.conf. From there you can specify the domain you want to access OpenProject from. I.e. https://openproject.mysite.com
Where is openproject.conf?
openproject.conf is in /etc/apache2/sites-available or sites-enabled in my distro.
I'm having similar issues. I followed the installation procedure to the letter. Over the next 2 hours I found it hadn't installed most of the dependencies and it had modified my virtualhost files in such a way that most of them were non-functional. I fought for another 3 hours to try to force it to either take on an openproject.domain.com or domain.com/openproject form but I've stll not figured it out. The vhosts files it generates and scatters around the filesystem seem remarkably complex for what should surely just be an alias > directory?
@James Buckle, here's what I have so far, still stuck:
