### User Problem
#### User
_What persona, persona segment, or customer type experiences the problem most acutely?_
* Project manager
#### Problem
_What problem or job does the user have?_
* Does not see bottle necks of current projects
* Cannot effectively manage his projects along critical project resources
* Does not see possible project delays on time
* Cannot migrate from established PM software (MS Project) since critical path is binding requirement
#### Pain
_What is the primary workaround that users perform that we could remove or replace? Why is it painful?_
* Looks at Gantt chart (using follows-precedes relationships) and tries to figure out critical path
* Takes a lot of time and is very error prone for large projects
* Exports project to Excel, then to MS Project and uses critical path there
* Takes a long time
* Needs to be done often to be accurate
* Requires a separate software (e.g. MS Project)
* Is only visible for single user (who has access to e.g. MS Project)
### Solution
_How do we solve the user’s problem. What is our “pain killer”? What must we achieve in the first version of the solution in order to achieve value for the user?_
* Establish the option to activate the critical path.
* Add e.g. a button to the Gantt chart section (in Gantt toolbar) to display critical path
* Highlight critical path when clicking on button
* Let user save view with displayed critical path.
* Allow user to export Gantt chart with ciritcal path (e.g. as part of browser print function)
#### Out of Scope for the MVC
_What should NOT be in the minimal viable change, and can be considered for future iterations? Why? Please order them by importance._
* Critical path across multiple projects
#### Differentiation
_What do you believe will differentiate us from the current experience or competitive experiences?_
* Makes OpenProject more competitive with existing project management solutions
* This feature is "must have" for serious project managers who manage large (traditional) projects
#### Next iteration
_What is the next solution that would allow us to release meaningful customer value quickly?_
* Add way to visualize critical path in Gantt chart
### Launch and Growth
#### Measures
_How will you know you solved the problem? Please list measurable, quantitative indicators (preferred) or qualitative ways you plan on assessing the solution?_
* Increase use of Gantt chart by 10%.
* Have customers switch from established solutions (e.g. MS Project) to OpenProject to plan Gantt charts.
#### Messaging
_If you were to write a press release, how would you describe the value to customers?_
<figure class="table"><table><tbody><tr><th>Headline</th><td> OpenProject supports critical path</td></tr><tr><th>First Paragraph</th><td>Project managers can now display the critical path directly in OpenProject's Gantt chart. Work collaboratively on a project and highlight critical decisions to run your projects successfully.</td></tr><tr><th>Customer Quote</th><td> "Love that OpenProject now supports critical paths. This is what kept us away so far. Now we can work collaboratively on our projects and finally ditch MS Project."</td></tr></tbody></table></figure>
