This would be really useful for certain system administration and accounting tasks.

I don’t recall getting this functionality I originally wanted to work for us in version 3 or above. Ultimately we made a decision to move to the hosted solution in hopes that this feature would eventually come to fruition. I don’t think it has yet unfortunately, so we implemented a workaround by setting up recurring tasks as a “Type”. We are currently running on OpenProject 7.1.0. Below are some screenshots of our implementation of “Recurring Tasks” as a ‘Type’. I hope this will help you get a better idea for implementing a solution in your own environment.

At the moment the built-in (or pluggable) there is no solution in version 7?

This is something we would be very interested in.

Our use case for OpenProject is managing a multi-element radio-telescope. We have software and hardware development projects, ongoing regular maintenance tasks, and maintenance issues that all need to included in various subprojects.

I created the new type and now I am wondering if there is a way to set the recurring task to send a notification (reminder) each time when a specific date is close (e.g. 12th of October every year). Do you know how this can be accomplished.

it is not possible to send out reminders automatically.

You can facilitate the "reopening" process by creating a custom action (available in the Enterprise Edition and Cloud Edition).

To do this, go to the administration and select "Custom actions".

You can then define a button which is shown for the recurring task and which triggers several updates at once.

For example you could change the status to "New", set an assignee and send a notification to a user all at once.

The button is then shown for the work packages which meet the defined conditions.

We would really love to see support for recurring tasks in OpenProject.

How did creating a new "type" for recurring tasks assist you in making these function like a traditional recurring task? Did you use new versions for each iteration of a recurring task? Is it still a wholly manual process in which you copy the previous recurring task?
