Members of a project not able to create subproject

Added by Zheng Huang over 5 years ago

I think this is a bug that should not exist in the first place, so here is the problem:

I want my project members to be able to create their own subproject under the big project.

So what I did is that I went to the system setting -> roles and permissions -> member, and edit it’s role permissions. I enabled the “create subproject” button under the project section.

While members who has the “project creator” role were able to create a new project and manually assign it to be as a subproject of the big project, members who are not “project creator” has no way creating subproject even though this functionality was enabled for them.

Because the only place where we can make a new project as subproject is with the “+Subproject” button inside of the “project setting” page, which members does not have access to (and should not have access to).

So I was thinking why not have the “+Subproject” button on the project overview page, if that is possible.

Please let me know if I’m missing out something, or if anyone have ideas on how to make this work locally, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Zheng

I noticed the same issue. Even though I have the right to create subprojects as a member, there is no button available to do just that.

The administrator has also a button in the “select project” drop down menu on the top left.

Maybe that would be a good place to position the button. But of course this would not have a direct connection to the project that I would like to create the subproject for.

The only workaround I found was to give the members additionally the right to admin the project itself.

Then the members could also change project information, custom fields and backlog settings.

That isn’t ideal, but at least you have access to the subproject create button

Hi Andreas,

Thanks for the reply. Sorry that I phrase it wrong, what I mean to make a“+Subproject” button on the overview page within each project, and if would react similarly to the one in the project setting page, which has the subproject part auto filled.

I was also thinking about changing the html code in the app/views/projects/show.html.erb, and hard code this button with the code I found in the settings.html.erb. But I was not able to do it successfully.

So I guess I would have to make everyone to be Project Creator so that people can create project and assign them to be the subproject of other projects.

But thanks for the info, I really appreciated.

Zheng

I don’t think you need to make the project admin. In the role settings you can give members the right to edit projects.
Then they will be able to access the +Subproject button in the Project Configuration
