Customize Working time
Added by Paul Britton about 7 years ago
New user here… Is it possible to create a custom working time calendar?
Usually this is needed to set a 5/6 or 7 working day week, but in my case, I need to set a 3 day working week for a part time project myself and some friends are working on.
I need OpenProject to calculate task completion dates based on estimated task durations for a 3 day/week work schedule….
Seems a fairly basic requirement, but I can’t see how to do it (or even to set weekends as working or non-working)

Hello Paul,
this is not yet possible in OpenProject.
While defining working days and times is certainly a useful feature, it requires major changes to OpenProject.
Therefore, we did not yet implement it.
As of now, you can use the Gantt chart to create project plans and create relations to automatically update following phases / milestones.
Work days / times are however not yet considered so you would need to update this manually.
Best regards,
Robin
Hi Robin,
Since it has been two years from this matter, I'd like to know if working time customizing feature is now included on OpenProject.
Thanks,
Christian.
Hi Christian,
working times are not yet available in OpenProject but are in fact one of the next main features we plan to implement (we'll likely start with implementing weekends).
Can you elaborate on your requirements? Aside from considering weekends which other aspects (e.g. holidays, vacation) would be most relevant for you?
Thanks,
Robin
Thanks for your interest Robin! Yes, I Will be glad to help in this matter.
Some of the requirements I think OpenProject might include are:
Greetings,
Christian.
Hi there,
I'm new in this community and exploring the features. I would like to add another point with Christian. It would be helpful if we can get an option to calculate the number of working days (i.e. duration) automatically. Plus email notification for start date & finish date of each work package would be more helpful for big projects.
Thanks
Ashraful
Hi Mohammad,
thanks for your feedback. Please also add it to #30639 to chime in on the resource planning Epic.

Hey, Bumping the subject 👋 I am currently discovering OpenProject, and as I am getting to love it, missing this working days feature is feeling hard. I don't want to say dealbreaker, but feeling unsure about it. Is there an open ticket that we can track ?
Another question, since you guys are using your own product for your own project management :
How do you work around missing this in your project planning, and still manage to track project time with tasks calculated over non-working days ?
I am trying to find a tool like OpenProject, and a way to plan my project, that will allow my client to keep track of the deadlines and delivery dates and an answer could really help me using OpenProject in that regard.
