[Solved] Project Portfolio Managment

Added by Stefan Göris over 10 years ago

Hello all,

I have a question regarding in reporting a lot of projects with their status.
What I found out is that we can create several projects in this tool and we have the possibility to create a lot of reports with the different overviews for ONE project.
Is it possibile to to mange ONE report for ALL projects which have been created?

The idea is, because we are working with specific milestones in our projects to report those milestones on one single report to have the best overview about our project portfolio management.

Thanks in advance for your support

Stefan

Hello Stefan,

if I understand you correctly you are referring to the “Status reporting” entry in a project.
When you create a status report from project A to project B, project A and all of its work packages are shown in project B’s timeline (which you may have to activate in the project settings).
In order to display multiple projects in another project (e.g. project B) simply create status reportings from each of the projects you want to display to the target project (e.g. project B).

You can then configure your timeline to (for example) only display certain types (e.g. Milestones) in the report.

Best,
Robin

When timeline is discontinued on Version 8.0 how will this view be achieved ?

RE: [Solved] Project Portfolio Managment - Added by Robin Gruna over 7 years ago

Hello all,

can anyone answer Pete Redhair’s question?

Project Portfolio Management (at least the visualization of multiple projects ) is an absolutely necessary feature for me.

How will this be possible in the upcoming releases?

Best regards,

Robin G.

Hello Robin,

there are basically two ways to display multiple projects with the new Gantt chart:

  1. If you only want to display a project and its subprojects, you can navigate to a project, go to the work package page and filter for “Subproject”. You can then group by the project and activate the Gantt chart to create an overview similar to the one in the old timeline.
  2. If you want to display projects which are not in a hierarchical relationship you can go to the global work package list. To do this, click on the “Modules” entry in the header navigation (the icon with the 9 tiles next to the search / question mark button) and select “Work packages”. Use the “Project” filter to display the projects you want to show, group by the project and activate the Gantt chart.

This solution works nicely for projects with minimal tasks in them as you have shown but when you are running projects with 40+ tasks each concurrently this solution does not enable you to actually view the overall project timeline against another one. Any other ideas?
