Meaning of 'versions'?
Added by Barret Wallace over 7 years ago
Hi,
I’m new to OpenProject and want to give it a try for (mostly) general purpose projects like writing a complex report, organizing an event or conducting a study. I also want to include agile elements into our project management, e.g. having a project backlog.
However, I have a problem with the roadmap. As far as I can see, it comprises of ‘versions’. But what is a version in the above use cases? There is no Dinner Party v0.1, v0.2 and so on.
Instead, there are different aspects or areas of the project such as financial planning, invitations, catering,… Each of which should have tasks assigned to them. I’d like to display theses areas in the backlog area and create work packages associated to the areas.
Probably this would work with versions, technically. However, the term is a little bit awkward in my context, especially for project admins, who have to create new ‘versions’ in order to define new areas of concern.
My question is: Should I use versions for the purposes stated above or do I understand this whole thing completely wrong and should follow a different approach? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Best regards,
Barret.
