Time tracking (estimated time, spent time, remaining Hours)
Added by Anton de Goede over 7 years ago
If we create a new task (work package) and we include a “estimated time” value. Then we see that value. If our employees write hours on this task we do not see any calculation done to the “remaining hours”. Is this some sort of setting? And is there a way to see if there are more hours written then “estimated time” so we can keep track?
Please see attached image. I would imagine that in this case “Remaining Hours” should be 29 (4 33 = –29).
Could someone explain how this works?

Hi Anton,
the values for estimated time, spent time and remaining hours are independent from each other.
There is no automatic calculation of the remaining hours based on the estimated time and spent time (it also cannot be configured).
Typically, the estimate is incorrect (especially when it is a large task you’re estimating) and then you would need to adjust the estimate afterwards which may lead to some trouble. - Therefore, this is not automatically calculated in OpenProject.
There is however a feature request addressing this: .
You can still compare the total estimated time and logged time by taking a look at a version (provided the time tracking module is activated) and therefore get a sense of how the team is doing compared to the estimate.
Best,
