Agile Scum & Backlogs Plugins: Automatic closure of Stories / Work Packages within Backlogs / Sprints when all associated tasks are complete / closed.
Added by James Storey almost 10 years ago
We’re using the Agile Scrum Plugin and Backlogs Plugin.
I’ve created several Backlogs as Sprints. In each Sprint are Work Packages (Stories, Bugs etc..). To define the progress of each Work Package and modularise it, each one has its own task(s). The progress of which can be viewed using the Task Board. When all the associated tasks for a Work Package are in a particular status (e.g. “Closed”, “Rejected”, “Test Complete” etc…), I want the Work Package to automatically change it’s status (e.g. “Closed”).
Currently, I cannot find any functionality for this to occur. The only similar functionality in Project Settings is for when Work Packages are set to a particular status, they can be marked as “Done” but this is of no use to us.
We would also like some similar functionality for Backlogs / Sprints to automatically change their status when all Work Packages associated to them are of a particular status (e.g. “Closed”).

In our team we work both with the backlogs plugin and the timeline. In both cases it would be both logical as well as a big time saver, if parent work packages would get updated based on their child work package’s status.
Examples: Parent and all children are “new”. One child changes its status to “in progress”, the parent changes to “in progress” as well. The same logic should then also apply for closing a parent.
I agree that this would improve usability. Do you already have any plans on this or isn’t this scheduled?
