Checklists and templates?

Added by Steven Schveighoffer over 8 years ago

I am using open project these days for all sorts of tracking.

One of the things I track is a repetitive task that I must perform on a set period. Is there any way to create a “template” work package, where I can simply copy a work package or set of work packages, then just change the date? Bonus points if it can do this automatically for me (like a repeating appointment in a calendar).

Another thing I would like to see is a checklist work package. This can be simulated by creating sub packages for each checklist item, but the UI required to do this is quite clumsy for the things that I would want to do. You could also attach the checked off items to the percentage complete.

I'm looking for this as well. We manage our RFP responses in OP and need to create child tasks for each of them so we are sure that certain tasks are assigned and have due dates. Doing this manually is a great deal of work and setting up each RFP as its own project using Project Templates is not viable.

Hello Joe,

it is possible implement a default work package description for any work package type. [1] So you could set up a a new work package type called "RFP", add a custom template description and also additional custom fields via the confirguration form. That way, you get a fairly pre-configured work package that can be set up with a few clicks. Once established, you could further create a custom action which assigns the work package to a certain user (or group), chages its status and more. [2]

When it comes to recurring tasks, this EPIC could be of your interest:

It is part of the current roadmap.

Best,
Alexander

Hi Alexander,

Thank you for your response. I am using the custom work package types for many things. My RFP work package type is the most heavily customized. I have the workflow setup pretty well, too. The default description isn't going to satisfy this request though; the work is performed by different people so it needs to be assigned to them.

I like the recurring tasks EPIC and have upvoted it.
