Can't update the status of a parent work package. Bug?

The progress of the parent work package updates automatically. The status however does not update automatically but I think that is not possible yet.

Anyway, I thought I might set the status of the parent work package manually but the UI won’t let me. Maybe that’s to avoid erroneous and possibly misleading reporting for the parent?

My next thought is to write an SQL script to set the status of parents based on my particular application’s business rules. Any thoughts?
