WorkPackage/Planning Elements

Added by mark scarantino almost 12 years ago

following thru how some of these item link for reporting/timelines/etc

i see that a WorkPackage/Planning Element can be associated to a Tracking Version.

I would think that many tracking versions could be associated to a WorkPackage/Planning Element.

I would see the hierarchy being:

  • an Issue links to a Tracking Version
  • a tracking version links to a planning element/WorkPackage

Then the Timeline could show Planned ( workpackages/Planning elements ) vs actual ( Tracking Versions ) is a visual process.
It would also facilitate the updating showing a planned date is going to be missed and requires some new planning.

Just thoughts.

Thanks for listening.

Do you mean “Target Version”?

We’re currently merging Issues and Planning Elements into WorkPackages. There will not be Issues nor PlanningElements once that is done. The hierarchy would then read:

  • a work package links to a tracking version
  • a tracking version links to a work package

That looks like generic relations between work packages already capture whatever it is you want to capture.

Timelines could show those nevertheless, as you would be able to also capture “follows”- and “prepends”-relationships.
