You can for instance filter based on type and / or status. This may achieve part of your objective.

You can apply the same filters as currently available in the work package list and then activate the timeline view.

We also need this feature as we would like to hide the backlog packages and show only those packages which have already been planned.
Will it be possible with the new TimeLine of OpenProject 7.0?

yes, you can filter on versions with the new timeline.
You can apply the same filters as currently available in the work package list and then activate the timeline view.
