Flexible/Reactive Scheduling - Timelines
Added by Kendell Welch almost 9 years ago
Hello,
I had some trouble making sure that I was on the very newest version, but I got that resolved yesterday. So…here’s what I really want to ask:
In my department, we have something like 50 “Projects” with various “Work Orders” associated. We have to give monthly updates to both our users and upper management on progress and estimates of completion. Our IT department really likes the Timeline feature in OpenProject, however, it requires us to provide hard dates for Work Orders. That is not possible for us, as we are also a responsive team.
Obviously we can set priority levels for stuff, and that works fine. But, it would be much better if we could assign an “estimated hours for completion” or something like that, based on the priorities and scheduled availability of our team, rather than providing hard dates, and thus the timeline would self-adjust for reporting purposes.
I’m not sure if this is possible now and I just haven’t figured out how to do it, or if I should make it a feature request. I would appreciate any input!
Thanks!
Kendell

Hello Kendell,
thanks for your message.
The feature you describe does not yet exist in OpenProject. It is possible to set the “Estimated time” for work packages.
However, this information is not used or displayed on the timeline.
Feel free to open a feature request (User Story) in the Wish list
Best,
Robin
