How to deal with part time resources

Added by Milos Cuculovic over 9 years ago

Hello, I am working on a project where the main resource is working only 50% (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning).
How to deal with this situation in the OpenProj? Is there a possibility to define resource availability days in the calendar so that the project takes this as an input in the timeline organization?

Thank you in advance.

Hello Milos,

currently it’s not possible to restrict the availability of users.
If there are multiple users working on similar tasks you could add them to a group (Administration > Groups) and assign work packages to the group instead.
Then all users defined in the group are notified about changes on the work package.

Best,
Robin

Thank you for your prompt reply Robin, really appreciate.

In my case, one user is working on 5 different tasks. I started defining the tasks duration and then assigned this user to the 5 tasks.

The issue here is that as the user works only 50, he is show as always overloaded by 50 and the task duration stays the same.

My concern is about the fact to increase the task end date depending on the resource availability.

Hi Milos,

one way to display the user’s workload is to use the work package page and group by the assignee while displaying e.g. the “estimated time” column in the work package page.
You can find more information here: https://community.openproject.org/topics/5421?r=5453#message-5453

Maybe that fits your requirements.

Best,
Robin

Hi Robin,

My goal is not to display the user workload, but to have the Gantt chart right. As the assigned resource is not working on Monday, Tuesday and Friday afternoon, I would like to have this displayed on the Gantt chart.

Hi Milos,
it’s unfortunately not possible to include restrictions which days are shown / for which days work packages can be assigned to users in the timeline.
The approach with the work package list would provide a different way to display the workload but in the Gantt chart this is not yet possible.
