What is Open Project for?
Added by JC Biggs over 9 years ago
I work in plastic injection and am looking for a software to manage our immense number of projects that come in the door. It looks to me that Open Project is more geared towards the computer science crowd?
Ideally, Id like to be able to create task (that are repetative, and the same for every job) So when a new project comes in, I can assign the “quote” work package to someone and that package then outlines the steps to take. Then as the project progresses I could add more work packages for Engineering reviews, Tooling builds, Processing Testing, and finally QA reviews.. Not every project makes it through all these steps.
Just at first glance do you folks think that open project will work for me?

Hi JC,
Based on what you are describing, OpenProject can work for you. It is not specific to development projects. You can create tasks, as well ad duplicate them. You can also duplicated entire projects. Why don’t you create a demo and see for yourself?
Also, our tutorials and user guides might be helpful in guiding you through OpenProject Features.
Best,
Maya
I had my IT Director set up a VM and I have OP running now. I need to really dig in and figure out how to use it. I think it will work, It just doesnt “feel” intuitive to me. But that just may be because I’m used to a completely different kind of layout. I get hung up on the difference between the timelines, and the work packages. Do you use them together?
