It’s part of the backlogs plugin and can be accessed by hovering over the arrow of a backlog version and selecting “Task board”.
It’s not the same as a Kanban board as the tasks displayed and moved are sub-tasks of user stories but maybe it fits your use case.

My question was also partly about the future design strategy of OpenProject, namely if there is an agenda to become a player within the Kanban space too.
the columns represent the allowed statuses for work packages of type “Task” (which are displayed in the task board).
You can customize them by adding the status you want to use (by navigating to “Work package statuses” in the admin settings and adding the statuses you want to display as columns). Then you can adjust the workflow accordingly (by navigating to “Workflow” in the admin settings, selecting the role (you have in the project) and type (task)).
Currently, the focus lies on extending the functionality of the work package page (e.g. allowing inplace edit in the work package details pane).
It is planned to rebuild the backlogs feature in the future. This may also include Kanban features.
Are there any particular Kanban features you miss in OpenProject / which would add the most benefit for you?
Hi Robin, thanks for asking. I’d have to use OpenProject a bit more to understand it’s limits better. I’ll come back later comment. It might be that the aim that OpenProject is going for is more detailed (low-level) than what I’d need.
On top of my head, I’d like to see an end-to-end chain from epics to user stories mapped on a simple configurable Kanban board. I’m really not that interested in time estimation or very detailed “card-tricks”. :)
I’ll come back to comment if I come up with something more concrete.
As I am also interested in using Kanban, do I understand correctly that the work packages need to have specific type names?
If “Task” is the one that is recognized, what else can be used to group tasks? What other types are relevant to the Kanban functionality?
