Emails are sent when Work package status updated is unchecked
Added by joão Silva over 9 years ago
Hi All,
In my installation of OpenProject I still get emails from workpackage status if the checkbox “Work package status updated” is unchecked in http://openproject.my.server/settings?tab=notifications.
The only way to prevent emails being sent is by unchecking the “Email updates” box in the workpackage update form.
This is particularly annoying specially when moving tasks around on the taskboard in backlogs: an hesitant mind will send several emails to collaborators by accident.
Questions:
1. Is this expected behaviour or bug?
2. Is it possible to have “Email updates” unchecked by default?
Thanks in advance,
João.

Hello João,
thanks for your message.
This sounds like a bug to me.
However, you can adjust the email settings for your account in “My account”.
If you check the option “I don’t want to be notified of changes that I make myself” you won’t receive email notifications for you own actions (but you’ll still get emails if others make changes to work package you created, are a watcher of or are otherwise involved in).
If you want to disable all emails for your account, you can change the email setting altogether (e.g. to “No events”).
Best,
Robin
Hi Robin
Thank you for your answer.
I wasn’t completely clear in my second question. The question is if there is a way for an admin to make the “Email updates” checkbox in the workpackage update form to be un-ticked by default so that users have to choose to send email notifications.
If not, can this be a feature in future releases?
This would achieve at least 2 things:
- Prevent spamming all users when things get moved around in taskboards;
- Make the user more conscient of the emailing of updates to collaborators.
About the probable bug. Where can I file this kind of bug report?
Best,
João.
Hello João,
this is a good suggestion. Actually, the default behavior regarding email notifications will be changed in the next OpenProject versions.
By default, no email notifications will be send.
You can report the bug in the bug backlog.
Thanks,
Robin
