Demo - problems with work packages, timelines, etc.

Hi,
I am evaluating OP for my company to see if it could replace MS Project plus spreadsheets, etc., but am having a hard time getting the demo to do even the simplest of things, and I can’t believe (yet) that it’s OP.
For example, I create a small test project of two task WPs with resources, estimated times (5 days, 1 day) and a 1-2 follower relationship, then I look at a timeline to see a Gantt view.
However, all I see is two very short tasks with essentially a 1-day duration each.
The timeline view also only just displays the two activities in the view, nearly cutting off the bottom of the picture.
If I then try to book time to a task, it increases the booked time but doesn’t reduce the remaining time, plus other more minor niggles.
Am I missing something here - these are really simple features that I’d expect any PM tool to be able to do, so I’m thinking that maybe the demo setup isn’t working properly - can anyone help?
