Can milestones have subpackages assigned?

Added by Ricardo Garcia Silva over 10 years ago

I’m trying to create a subpackage from a parent milestone. This does not seem to work, as openproject fails with ‘Parent cannot be a milestone’. Is this a ‘feature’? Or did I configure something the wrong way?

If it is indeed not possible to create a subtask from a milestone, how can I use milestones together with the backlogs plugin?

Hi Ricardo,

thanks for your question.
It’s indeed not possible to assign children to milestones. The concept behind milestones is that they do not have sub-tasks assigned to them but are separate from other work packages and mark a single point in time (therefore, the start and end date of a milestone have to be the same).
If you want to use work package types with sub-tasks, you should make sure that those types are not defined as “milestones” (configured in the “Types” section in the administration).
A different way to show dependencies with milestones (instead of using work package children) can be reached by using work package relations: You can configure that a milestone “follows” another work package.

Best,
Robin
