Running projects in calendar overview

Added by Remco Peters over 8 years ago

We have multiple projects at a time and would like to keep track of the tasks and their status. With OpenProject this can be done easily I see.

But:
We want to have a sort of a calendar overview of all projects on the date they are due / need to be done.

For your information:
The projects we enter in OpenProject are projects which need preparation before delivering them to the customers. The projecttasks we enter and keep track of are all about preparing the products. On the date that a project is due (this is the date of delivery to the customer) we want to have an overview in a calendar of projects that are due on that date.

Is something like that possible?

Hi Remco,

I think you cannot directly achieve this, but maybe through a special work package type that holds the project name and due date:

  • create a master project, move all the other existing project below it (as sub projects)
  • configure a reporting of the sub project towards the master project
  • create a new work package type “DueDate” or whatever (maybe as a milestone), assign it to all your sub projects
  • in each sub project, create exactly one work package of type “DueDate” with the project name and the due date

Now in the master project’s calendar you should see your work packages from the sub projects and you can filter the calendar view to only show those of type “DueDate”.

Regards,
Jens

edit: sorry, I wrote “activity” instead of “work package”
