Task Connector for MS Project install issue
Added by Wes Caswell almost 10 years ago
I have MS Project 2010 x86 installed on my computer and I’m trying to install Task Connector for Project. However, when I try to install the program it comes up with an error saying that MS Project must be installed first. I have tried multiple versions 2.14, 2.13 and 2.12, I have also tried both versions of 2.14 (by User and by Machine).
Has anyone else had this issue? And how were you able to get it to install?
Thanks, Wes.

Hi Wes,
to me this sounds as if your ms project installation might not have gone as smooth as it should be. To verify this please make sure you have one of the following registry keys:
For a 32-Bit Windows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Project\InstallRoot
For a 64-Bit Windows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Project\InstallRoot
If not try reinstalling ms project and try again, either by trying to install the Add-In or by checking for the registry key.
Best regards,
Alex
I checked the Registry.
I do see the entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Project\InstallRoot
Is there something else it uses to validate Project before it does the install?
Hi Wes,
this should be fine, if you are running a 32-Bit Windows. What bitness does your Windows have?
And as a side note: We only support Windows 7 and up. What Windows are you running?
Currently I would assume your setup is as follows:
Please tell me if any of those points is not correct.
Best regards,
Alex
I’m running Win 7 x86 with MS Project x86 as well. I have tried the last 3 versions of the add-in 2.12 - 2.14, all 32-bit.
Hi Wes,
I’m sorry to tell you this but you might be out of luck. At least I wouldn’t know as to why the installer cannot properly detect your MS project installation. I tried to reproduce your issue with the current installer but wasn’t able to. Is there anything special about your installation?
If not the only thing I can advise you to do is the generic “try a re-install of your MS Project”.
Best regards,
Alex
