Migration from 2.4 to 3.0 / Bug reports for 2.4 recommended?
Added by Ralf Walther over 10 years ago
Hi,
I’m new to OpenProject and I’m evaluating it for our development team.
As stated in another post, timeline feature is in version 3.0 available.
If we decide to start our integration with version 2.4., can we expect to update to 3.0 in an easy way?
Or are we then forced to setup a 3.0 version from scratch?
This tool is realy amazing and I would be pleased, if it fits all our needs.
Sunny Regards
Ralf
PS: Forgot to ask if it is recommended to report 2.4 bugs?

Hello Ralf,
first thanks for your praise. We too hope that you’ll find everything you need in OpenProject.
Your first question: Update path from OpenProject 2.4 to 3.0
Yes, you can expect to migrate from OpenProject 2.4 to 3.0. But OpenProject 3.0 is already quite stable, so I, personally, recommend you to start with OpenProject 3.0 right from the beginning.
Your second question: Bugs for OpenProject 2.4
I don’t think that there will be something like a maintenance release of OpenProject 2.4 because we completely focus on OpenProject 3.0. Thus, I’m sorry but we won’t be able to fix any bugs found with OpenProject 2.4 (except severe security issues). That said, bug reports for OpenProject 3.0 are very welcome! :-)
I hope this helps you in your decision.
Cheers,
Hagen
Hi Hagen,
well that sounds really good to me. I’l give 3.0 a try on monday.
If we successfully integrate it into our developent process, we won’t hesitate to contribute pieces of code if necessary.
Actually I’m not quite sure, if there exists a smooth integration into eclipse via MyLyn connector as repository.
I know of the Redmine MyLyn connector … do you any details about that topic?
Well, … I think this tool can rock our software development …
Ralf
BTW: We are testing 2.4 on a windows server … and it works … amazing (;-)
Hi Ralf,
that sounds promising too. :-)
At the moment there is no connector to Eclipse or any other development tool. We are discussing a GitHub integration, but we have no detailed plans yet.
Please be aware of the fact that we do not support Windows deployments. But that does not mean that we do not welcome any installation guides for Windows systems. ;-)
Good luck for the OpenProject 3.0 installation next week!
Hagen
