New fullscreen view for work packages -> Please give us feedback
Added by Christoph Zierz about 10 years ago
In the last weeks we have been working on a new concept for the work package detail view (fullscreen).
Our goal is to have a new well structured and responsive layout, so that all information and functions are neatly arranged on one page.
We spent a lot of time to improve the whole user experience in order to make OpenProject more intuitive and easier to use. Many UI elements are designed in a much cleaner and new flat way.
As you can see in the attached drafts, we will provide two different layouts for small and big desktop displays. The responsiveness of Openproject is a big deal for us
and will be part of all future developments.
List of new features:
- new structured layout / more space between contents
- improved toolbar with a view-switcher button
- added watch/unwatch button to the toolbar
- full accessible inplace-editing
- uploaded images will displayed as clickable thumbnails
- the status will be emphasized by adding colors
- show / hide function for the attributes list
The new work package view (#16364) is scheduled after the completion of the inplace edit for the work package split screen (#13701).
Please let us know what you think of it. Your feedback is much appreciated.

Nice welcome improvement.
You know, if you talk to the end user, they will ask you the sky :-)
So here there are some other (small) requests :-)
1)I’m using work packages categories: can I edit them in this new form?
2) Is it possible to see the logged times of the work package (how many hours, who, when)?
3) Colored work packages: I would like to see a “red” work package not because of the status, but because the spent time is higher than the estimated time. The color should be visible everywhere (timelines, work package list, backlogs, task board, …).
This could be important (to me) to see what are the packages with some unexpected “delay”.

Here are my ideas:
Will this “fullscreen view” get the new default view for creating workpackages? I like the real fullscreen view for creating work packages much more.
In the current OpenProject version which is used here, the only way i found out to get the old view is the use the shortcut “n w p”.
Best regards
Marc
Hello Marc,
thanks for your feedback. There will be a full screen view for creating work packages which is currently not yet implemented on community.openproject.org.
This view will replace the full screen create form which currently can be reached by the shortcut (n+w+p) - but it will be quite similar (the inplace create view (which can currently be reached when selecting “+ Work packages” from the toolbar) can give you some idea)).
Best regards,
Robin
The new fullscreen view is great and I’m considering upgrading to the new version, but is it possible to get rid of title trimming like in attachment screenshot (made on Retina MacBook)? If I make a browser window a little bit smaller, everything is looking great - it takes up two lines like in previous versions, but on fullscreen (1280px @2x) I can’t see full work package title - this is an issue to me because in fullscreen view I expect to see everything
