Collapse work package hierarchy
Added by Taras Zakharko about 10 years ago
Is it possible to collapse the nested work packages? Working with large hierarchies of tasks can get very confusing quickly. I also found no way to filter based on hierarchy or hierarchy position. It would be nice to have the features to:
a) filter based on parent (transitive) and position in the hierarchy (for the beginning, just the top-level work packages would be a big help_
b) collapse and open the hierarchies (similar to what most code editors offer)
Thanks,
Taras

Hello Taras,
thanks for your suggestions.
It is currently not yet possible to collapse the work package hierarchy or filter only for parent work packages but this is a feature that is certainly quite useful and which we will consider.
Thanks,
Robin
Hi Guys,
we now work with OP for 3 months and have about 150 work packages in the summary.
We would highly advocate the functionality to collapse parent work packages.
I donĀ“t found any function to do that, is this feature still in your mind???

Hi Darkentik,
it is still in our mind but it is not on our roadmap. For 5.1 we will focus on inline editing in the work packages list. 5.2 will most likely bring drag & drop functionality. After that we will most likely bring together the timelines view with the current work packages table. In this context we will have to add the collapse feature.
It is an open source project. So you can implement it yourself. Your pull requests are always welcome.
Regards
Niels
Hi Niels,
ok good to hear that you have this feature in mind.
I wish i could but i have absolute no experience with programming ruby on rails.
See ya.
Anything new on this feature - we would need it as well.
for us as well. This is the most used feature in OP to click on all these little arrows "v"...
Many practical features are available in this application except the "collapse work package hierarchy by default option".
Do u have any plan to include this feature?
Hello Mohammad,
Thanks for your comment.
We have a feature request for collapsing work package hierarchies by default (see #31918). We added your vote to this feature.
While it is not yet assigned to a future OpenProject version, the number of votes is one of the criteria (along with e.g. the RICE score) our product team considers for deciding which features to add to the OpenProject roadmap.
For more transparency, you can take a look at the documentation of the product development process at OpenProject.
I see this issue ( #31918) now has over 41 votes. This functionality would make a huge difference for day-to-day users who have to switch between multiple projects during the day. Is this something that you are considering adding to the roadmap soon?
Hello Charlotta,
I understand your question on this. That certain feature request is unfortunately not on the roadmap yet. However, it is not forgotten and there is work in this direction happening. The feature request you linked (#31918 ) has several relations mentioned that partly switched their status recently and will be worked on based on our product development process. [1]
Best,
Alexander
