Account activation question

Added by Alexandru Matei over 10 years ago

Hello,

Please one more beginner question.

1. I have set the ‘manual account activation’ option in

‘Administration’ > ‘Settings’ > ‘Authentication’

2. I create a new user and assign it an initial password (e.g. 12345678)

3. Then immediately after adding the user account, I see the account as active!

Question 1: is that correct ?

Question 2: So what’s the difference between “manual account activation” and “automatic account activation” ?

Please see the two attached images.

Hello Alexandru,

yes this is correct because this setting is intended to work only if someone uses the “register” function and not if you create a new user from the admin area. So enable/disable the setting and see the difference by register a new user.

I tried also disabling the “Self Registration” option.

Then manually added users by me as admin still become automatically active.

Is that correct ?

Please see the image below

I will also check the last two options as well and see what happens when manually adding a new user account:

- automatic account activation
- account activation by email

Hi

I also tried the last two options from the “Self Registration” dropdown list in
Administration’ > ‘Settings’ > ‘Authentication’

- automatic account activation
- account activation by email

There is no difference, no effect on the manually added users by me as admin.

New added users still become automatically active, regardless the “Self Registration” option.

Please see attached image.

Is that correct ?

Hi again,

yes that’s all correct this setting only affects users which register himself.
