Authentication required - what is this for ?
Added by Alexandru Matei about 10 years ago
Hi,
I read here in the forum something that Jens wrote some time ago:
it sounds to me like you do not want to allow people access to the system that are not logged in. For that you could go to:
Modules -> Administration -> Settings -> Authentication
And check the “Authentication required” select box. Save afterwards.
But may I ask to explain a bit more what is this “Authentication required” checkbox for ?
In my tests if I try to bypass the login page and try to directly access a page by copy-paste in the browser’s address bar,
I get an error
“the page you were trying to access doesn’t exist or has been removed.”
So isn’t authentication by username/password mandatory anyway ?

Hi Alexandru,
if you check “Authentication required” than you must login. If this is not checked than you can see the content of public projects like here on openproject.org even you are not logged in. To see private projects you have to be logged in even the “Authentication required” is not checked.
Best
Ratzi
I adjusted some mistakes in my last post plz check the post in the forum and not in the mail, sorry :(
