Infinit loop error message when using IE9

Added by Deleted user over 8 years ago

If you use Internet Explorer 9 or any other unsupported browser you will be presented with a message that says:
“Your browser is not supported
The browser you are using is no longer supported by OpenProject. Please update your browser.
Learn more”

If you click the link to “Learn more” you expect to end up at the page:
https://www.openproject.org/supported_browsers

BUT, instead you are immediately redirected to the same error message as above.

So you will never get to see which browsers that are supported.

Supported browsers
OpenProject supports the latest versions of the major browsers. In our strive to make OpenProject easy and fun to use we had to drop support for some older browsers.

Mozilla Firefox (Version >= 24)
If you are using the browser for personal use, you can rely on the latest default version. If you are part of an organisation and updating your browser is not an option, please check out the ESR

Google Chrome (Version >= 30)
Chrome’s current release

Microsoft Internet Explorer (Version >= 10)
Although more than one version is supported, we recommend using the current release

RE: Infinit loop error message when using IE9 - Added by Deleted user over 8 years ago

Yes, I already know that.

But a person which uses an unsupported browser will never see this message.
Nor will they be able to see this post, since they will be redirected to the page which gives the warning that their browser is not supported. Hence the “infinite loop” in the title of the forum post.

But maybe I should log this as a bug instead?

Hi Björn,

Yes, you are right. Can you please prepare a pull request for this?

Regards
Niels

RE: Infinit loop error message when using IE9 - Added by Deleted user over 8 years ago

Hi Niels,

Sorry, I have no idea where in the source code this redirect call happens. I have searched the code and find nothing that help me to track down this error.

I guess someone that is more familiar with the source and configuration have to take a look at this to try to trackdown the origin of this forced redirect.

Regards
Björn

RE: Infinit loop error message when using IE9 - Added by Robin Wagner over 8 years ago

Hi Björn,

thanks for reporting this error.
When using IE 11 in emulator mode (for IE 9) my browser froze as well.
I opened a bug for this (which is however slightly different from the behavior you describe):

Could you have a look if this is the same error you have?

Best,
Robin

RE: Infinit loop error message when using IE9 - Added by Deleted user over 8 years ago

Hi Robin,

No, I have no problem with browser freezing. I just get immediately redirected back at the start page every time I try to access the page:
https://www.openproject.org/supported_browsers

Regards,
Björn

RE: Infinit loop error message when using IE9 - Added by Robin Wagner over 8 years ago

Hi Björn,

yes, you’re right. The error I mentioned regarding the browser freeze (#16186) was actually caused by an error in the Emoji plugin.
The error you mentioned seems to be unrelated to this: It appears that there is an automatic redirect to the landing page which seems to affect all links (including the “Learn more” link for unsupported browsers):

We’ll have a look at this bug.
Thanks again for reporting this error.

Best,
Robin
