Work package not assignable to backlog

Added by Wolfgang Grossinger over 10 years ago

Hi!

I have a strange behavior (for me), I don’t understand:

Why is it not possible to assign a work package I created with ‘+new work package’ to a certain backlog (or HOW can I do that). It seems, that it only works, when I create a work package in the backlogs screen.

Thanks,

Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang,

in order to assign a work package created in the separate work package screen (+ New work package), you have to set “Target version” (in the new work package form) to the backlog version in which you want to display the work package.

You may also have to check whether the type of work package you are creating is displayed in the backlogs.
You can set / change this option in the configuration settings of the backlogs plugin: Go to ‘Modules’ > ‘Administration’ > ‘Plugins’ > ‘Configure’ (next to Backlogs plugin: Make sure that the type of work package you want to display in the backlogs is selected in “Story types” (you can select multiple entries by pressing ‘Ctrl’ and clicking on multiple entries.

Best,
Robin

Thanks Robin,

that makes it a lot clearer for me :-)

Maybe you can answer me one more question regarding the backlog configuration: What is it all about ‘Story types’ and ‘Task type’? I can specify exactly one task type and N story types but the story type must not be the task type… This is quite strange for me…

Regards,

Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang,

the “Story types” define which types can be shown in the backlogs itself, while the “Task type” specifies which type is shown in the task board.
(You can open the task board of a sprint, by hovering over the arrow of a backlog on the left side of the backlogs page (sprint backlog) and clicking on “Task board”)
By default the ‘Task type’ is set to “Task”. Whenever you create a task out of the task board, a work package of the specified ‘Task type’ is created.

The selected ‘Task type’ is consequently not shown in the backlog itself (since it describes a different level of granularity).

Hope this helps.

Best,
Robin

Thank you Robin, that helped a lot!
