[Solved] Copying a project not successful completed with demo account
Added by Martin Eggensperger over 10 years ago
I tried several times to copy an existing project in your demo environment. It ends up each time with the information that I will receive a mail, as soon as the project is copied. But there is neither a mail coming nor a project copied.
Is there a limitation for the demo environment or am I making a mistake?
Thanks in advance for your support.

Hi Martin,
sorry for the late reply.
This is indeed a bug which we currently address.
I just had a look at it and copying a project on the demo instances is working now: The project is copied and the newly created project can be selected via the project selection.
The email notification on the completion of the copy process is however not working yet.
Best,
Robin
Hi, is there any update on this bug? I still can’t copy a project even if on demo instance it works
Hi Thibaut,
this error has been fixed on the demo instances and should be working properly.
There is a separate fix for the release and dev branch.
Probably with the next stable release (3.0.13) this should be fixed.

Robin
Hi Robin,
is there a workaround for this issue which I could use for our production environment?
Best,
Hendrik
Hi Hendrik,
in release 3.0.13 the error still exists (both for copying projects from the system settings and project settings (and there is no workaround to my knowledge) but a fix has been merged in the release branch since then and the fix will also be part of OpenProject 3.0.14.
If you urgently need the feature you could update your OpenProject installation to the latest version from the release/3.0 branch.
(Copying work packages still does not work perfectly - even with this fix - but the other attributes (such as members, wiki pages etc.) are copied correctly.)
Best,
Robin
Hi Robin,
thanks for your quick reply. We switched branches this morning. Everything seemed to work until we tried to use the top navigation, where the dropdowns did not work anymore (Precompiling assets, restarting etc. did not help). So we decided to switch to dev branch, hoping we could have access to Open Project Administration and also copying projects. Switching to dev finally left us with a working top nav but no access to any project (server error 500).
To make a long story short: we really love Open Project, but sometimes it really makes us cry ;D
We will now switch back to release/3.0 branch and wait for 3.0.14 or 4.0 (or whatever version).
Best,
Hendrik
P.S.: I really wish, we could help out developing Open Project, but we are more the PHP / iOS / Android type of guys.
Hi Robin,
we have another update on that topic. When we switched back to release/3.0 top navigation worked again, but copying projects still leaves us with
Problem is: this won’t happen.
Best,
Hendrik
Hi Hendrik,
did you activate delayed job?
A couple of versions ago we changed the copy project feature so that it works asynchronously with delayed job (in order to not freeze the screen / the instance when a really large project is being copied).
I just tried it locally on release/3.0 and it worked properly.
There is an instruction on how to activate delayed job in the installation guide (in section 3.13).
Best,
Robin
Hi Robin,
thanks a lot for your support. We have it all up and running now.
Best,
Hendrik
Hi Hendrik,
glad it’s working now. :)
Have a productive day!
Best,
Robin
