Set a default version (Backlog) for new WorkPackage, and limit role access for changing Target Version
Added by Matt Brown over 10 years ago
Have a question about limiting the ability of certain roles to modify the target version of a Work Package. I have a role ‘Developer’ that is able to create User Stories, and when they create the story they are able to set the target version to one of the versions I have set up (Backlog, Sprint 1, Sprint 2…). Would like to be able to limit setting the version to the Product Owner role. So the ideal flow would be:
Developer creates new User Story and it automatically get a target version of ‘Backlog’.
At the scrum scheduling meeting, the Product Owner is able to drag the User Stories into a sprint.
The developer cannot change the target version, but can modify other fields, like the description if they want to alter what they wrote.
Anyone know of a way to tweak this? I’ve tried a modifying a few things in the developer role (‘Move Work Packages’, ‘Manage work package relations’), but not quite finding the combination that I would like.

Hello Matt,
this is not possible currently since the target version is just a normal work package attribute and OpenProject has no function to enabled / disable a specific attribute.
