Request for OAuth-Based Mail Sending Option in OpenProject
Added by Mathiyalagan C 11 months ago
Dear OpenProject Community,
I hope this message finds you well. I would like to bring to your attention an important update from Google that affects the way we send email notifications through OpenProject.
Google has recently announced that they will be winding down support for less secure apps and disabling Google Sync for Gmail accounts by September 2024. This change means that password-based email sending will no longer be supported by Gmail. You can read more about this announcement here: Google Workspace Updates.
To ensure that OpenProject continues to provide reliable email notifications to its users, I would like to propose the implementation of OAuth-based mail sending as an alternative to the current password-based method. OAuth authentication is more secure and aligns with the evolving email security standards.
OAuth-based email sending would not only enhance the security of email notifications but also make OpenProject future-proof in terms of email integration. Users will be able to connect their Gmail accounts securely without relying on passwords.
I believe that this change will be crucial for OpenProject users who depend on Gmail for their email notifications. It will also align OpenProject with industry best practices for email security.
I kindly request that the OpenProject development team consider this proposal and prioritize the implementation of OAuth-based mail sending as a part of the upcoming updates. If the community agrees with this suggestion, I would be happy to assist in any way possible to help make this transition smooth and successful.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback on this proposal. Let's work together to ensure that OpenProject continues to provide a secure and reliable email notification system.
