Workpackage relations
Added by Έλενα Δάρα 10 months ago
Hello everyone,
Could you please help me with 2 issues?
- Is there a feature in relations between work packages that does not let the member proceed to the following if he has not completed the current task? Or a feature through which the member can not even see the following work package in the workpackage list if he has not completed the current work package.
- Although I link the work packages through the precede and follow relationships, in the Gantt chart, when I move a workpackage, the related workpackages do not move automatically as it us supposed to happen.

Hello Έλενα,
there is currently no feature that does exactly what you describe in your first question. I guess what comes close is the blocked/blocked by relation.
With this relation, a member of a project cannot close a task if the related task is still open. So if you set a blocked/blocked by relation between task 1 and task 2 (blocked by), your colleague cannot close task 2 before she/he also closed task 1. That does not stop your colleague from seeing task 2 though. But I assume the motivation to work on task 2 before task 1 will drastically reduce if your colleague cannot close task 2 after finishing it, if task 1 is still open.
Please find here the guide on work package relations:

Do you maybe move it forward (closer to the current date)? If so, this feature request might cover that topic: https://community.openproject.org/wp/46139
Please add your vote and comment there if this also applies to your organization.
Best
