Global Roles
Added by Ed Ol about 10 years ago
Hello,
In the readme of this plug in, they say the following:
From the plugin, only “Create project” is available. However, there are other plugins adding more permissions to be assigned to global roles.
I don’t find any other plugins for that. Am I missing something? I would need the default Manager role to be able to create projects outside of its scope while having every other permission related to the role. I tried changing the Manager’s role type in the database from “Role” to “GlobalRole” but while adding the “create project” permission, it removes everything else. How can I make it work?
Thank you,
Ed

Hi Ed,
thank you for your question.
The plugins referred to in the Readme (which add additional permissions to global roles) have not been released yet, therefore they are not more clearly named.
Global roles are intended to give a user project-independent permissions (such as creating projects) without assigning him admin rights.
You can combine the permissions of the role “Manager” and the right to create projects by creating a new role, making it global and assigning a user both the newly created global role (with the (global) permission to create new projects) and the project-specific role “Manager”.
Thereby, a user can always have the permission to create projects, but dependent of the project he is in he can have different permissions (by assigning him different roles in those projects).
You can create a global role in the admin settings in Roles and permission by clicking on “New role” and then checking “Global Role”.
After assigning a name, the permissions to the role and saving, you can assign this role to a user by clicking on the user’s name in the Users overview (Modules > Administration > Users > click on user name), clicking on the tab “Global roles” and selecting the newly created global role.
Project-specific roles (such as “Manager”) can be assigned via the “Projects” tab in the same screen or directly in a project (by going to the project, selecting “Project Administration” in the left menu, going to the “Members” tab and entering the user’s name and role(s) for that project).
Best,
Robin
