Added by Christina Vechkanova over 1 year ago
Hi all!
We have hired a new developer to the team and want that he start work with new fuctions from community backlog.
When OP Team will add new bugs and features in releases 2023? It will help as understand OP Team plan and become more helpfull.
Could our developer take important (for us) features from wish list and commi it? Will they be include in releases?
Thank you.

Hi Christina,
great that you and your company want to contribute even more. We are definitely open to have more developers contribute with bugfixes and features.
For the roadmap I suggest you take a look at the roadmap view right within this project. There will always be some movement but this reflects the current plan. We just now started with 13.0. and should be able to conclude the year with at least some good progress if not the completion of 14.0.
When starting with the development in OpenProject, picking up bugs is of course a good starting point as one typically can work along the structure already in place. Just write us that you want to take up one of the bugs that we track and we'll assign the dev to it. Given the permissions you have, you might be able to do it yourself actually. Would be nice to give us some heads up on top of that (e.g. mention someone) as we then might be able to provide some pointers.
Communication will always help but is explicitly important for features in my experience so that the expectations are cleared up before developing. Because we want to share OpenProject into a valuable product for a lot of people, we want to refrain from implementing solutions that are very specific and in those cases would not incorporate a PR into the core. But talking about it first will mitigate that risk.
A definitive requirement for every PR to get merged is to have sufficient test coverage. Maintaining the quality in such a large software is only possible with a strong automatic test suite in place so we cannot have places in the application that break unknowingly.
So in total - great for you to offer your support.
Kind regards,
Jens
