Creating parents and children
Added by Harmick Azarian over 1 year ago
Hi guys, I am new to this self hosted Open Project due to security of my new job :)
I am trying to create tasks and children based on the PHASE> TASK hierarchy. In the main work package view it seems I can create a child by adding a task and then dragging it on to the parent (good UX, it's nice). But weirdly, you can only do this after you have set at least one task a child of a work package, making it a parent. Have I understood it correctly? It's a really weird flow because once you do that, you can just drag items on top of a parent and it works.
It would make much more sense if a parent child relationship could be established by dragging any item on to any item...this is a weird kink I guess, or am I missing something? Cheers:)

It sounds like you are using some sort of project management software or tool to create tasks and establish parent-child relationships based on a PHASE>TASK hierarchy. From what you have described, it seems that the software may have some limitations in terms of how parent-child relationships can be established.
Based on your description, it appears that you need to first create a task and then drag it onto a parent in order to establish a parent-child relationship. This can be a bit counterintuitive, especially if you are used to other software that allows you to simply drag any item onto any other item to establish a hierarchy.
However, it's possible that this is just a limitation of the software you are using, and there may not be a way to change the behavior. If this is causing frustration or slowing down your workflow, it might be worth exploring other project management tools that offer more flexibility in how parent-child relationships can be established.
