How to change the date of a new project using a template?

Added by Igors Semjonovs over 2 years ago

Good afternoon guys, please help with 2 questions.
1. I create a new project using a template. The template contains all the relationships between tasks. How to set a start and end time for a new project. For example, the start date of the project from the template is 01/01/2022, the end date is 06/31/2022. I want to create the same project with all relationships, but from 07/01/2022. How can I change the start date of the entire project without breaking the relationship?

2. Does the Gantt chart only show one task for 1 full day? For example, you can do 6 tasks one after another in a day, but in this case, the links between tasks do not work. I cannot set 6 tasks for 1 hour in one day and link them one by one. Is there any solution to this issue?

Thanks in advance

Hi Igor,

good questions:

  1. Currently OpenProject does not know the concept of project start dates as an explicit attribute of a project. In your specific case the easiest way is to create a milestone "project start". The first task must be a follower of this task. So moving the milestone "project start" moves all other work packages accordingly.
  2. Currently the smallest unit for a work package duration is a day. It is not possible to put two work packages of 4 h into a working day of 8 h.

Best

Niels

P.S. With the next release we will implement the concept of duration and weekend. So there will be significant progress in this area. However, as you can see there is still a large backlog of good ideas to improve scheduling in OpenProject.
