Export Timelines as PDF

Hi,

is it possible to export timelines as PDF (or any other format)??

Sorry Paul,

i have no idea. It seems the PDF export feature is not available in all views.

I have a similiar question and hope someone can give me some feedback.
We are using at the moment OpenProject 3.0.8 with Backlog and the PDF Plugin. We wanna export
our Sprint wikis in the PDF format, but it seems the pdf export is not always available.

The PDF Plugin mentions also that is is especially usefull for the backlog exports, so it seems the export feature is only there available.

A wiki can be exported only as an Atom, HTML and TXT.

Any info about the PDF export feature is highly appreciated.

Hi,

I also need to be able to export timelines to PDF or at least be able to print them. The only work around I seem to have found has been to pull the window across both my screens and hit a quick print screen. This isn’t ideal of-course.

Hi everyone,

as Paul mentioned there currently exists no export functionality for the timelines view.
While this is a feature that is on the roadmap, it will probably take still some time until it is available.
(Once there are more specific plans, this will be included in the project timeline .)

In the meantime, you may want to take a look at the PowerPoint Task Connector AddIn which allows to import data from OpenProject projects and create timelines in PowerPoint based on these projects.
In many cases this is even more useful than a PDF export function since you can style, adapt and resize the timeline to your needs.
There are also additional functions targeted at quickly creating a comprehensive management summary such as widgets to display a project’s title, description, responsible and project status as well as filtered work package lists and tables.

You can then of course save the created PowerPoint slide deck as PDF.

For an overview of the offered versions and a quick start guide please refer to the Wiki page of the Task Connector project.

Hi Paul,

I also missing any print features, so I try the Task Connector. Everything works fine, but the connection after installation only works when you activate the REST interface in your OP configuration.

Hi,

I installed the Task Connector without any problems but cant seem to get it to connect with a Gantt in OpenProject. We have a local deploy of OpenProject on our server here in the office.

Do I simply go to Power Point > Task Connector tab > Settings > Add > fill in all details to log into our server then in Instance put the address on the server? (e.g. http://10.0.0.111/projects/emla007/timelines/6) When I run the test it connects to server then fails to detect API, Login and Load projects.

Am I missing something or cant I use Task Connector with our local deploy of OpenProject?

Hi Richard,
we also have a local installation. You use your nornal account data (user/password) and the URL of your OpenProject server. I think in your case it is http://10.0.0.111. The name of the connection is as you wish. Then you choose a widget in the ribbon. There you can select the project and some further details.

Hello,

cannot connect to my OP server. Possible reasons:

1. Self signed certificate of https:// page. How do I tell TaskConnector what certificate to use?
2. What about company proxies? How do I deal with these in TaskConnector?

The answer to the first question is a quick one:

Make the certificate trusted

Option 1:

Get your certificate signed by a trusted CA

Option 2:

Tell your computer to trust this certificate by adding it to the certificate store of your computer.
This is the first link I’ve found on that topic: link

For a large-scale deployment I would recommend option 1, because it is the standard solution and works out-of-the-box. However, it costs money.
Note that even option 2 is more secure than “always accept untrusted certificates”, because you will notice when you are presented with a forged (i.e. not signed by you) certificate.

(also note that all disclaimers regarding the use of self-signed certificates apply, i.e. you should know what you are doing, otherwise security of your data might be at risk)

Regarding company proxies: I will have to answer that question later. At the moment I am not sure if we have to support them manually or if your default Proxy-Settings apply automatically. I will have to look that up.

Regarding proxies:

The Add-In uses the proxy settings of your computer. These are the settings used (for example) by Internet Explorer.

Hi,

does the connector still work with OpenProject 4.0.7? We cannot connect to an OpenProject 4.0.7 instance. The connection test of the connector fails at the last test “Projektliste abrufen” (get project list).

If I have a look at the requests that the connector makes, I get the following:

GET https://my-server/api/v2/authentication.json
GET https://my-server/api/v2/custom_fields.json
GET https://my-server/api/v2/projects.json
GET https://my-server/api/v3/

All requests have an Authorization header. But they do not sent any cookies. (Including the @ _open_project_session@ cookie. So there is no session)

According to https://github.com/opf/openproject/blob/dev/doc/apiv3-documentation.apib#L43 the API v3 only uses session based authentication. Looks like either the connector needs to be updated to simulate a user login and send the session cookies with every request or the OpenProject API v3 needs to be changed to also support HTTP Basic Authentication as authentication of requests.

There is a known Bug in the Task Connector for PowerPoint:

If your OpenProject Instance has the setting “Authentication required” enabled, the Task Connector will fail to load any useful data from the Instance, even though you provide correct credentials.

The issue will be fixed with the upcoming release of the Task Connector. However I can’t currently say when this version will be released.

A workaround would be to disable aforementioned setting, however this has obvious side effects.

Did the Task Connector wiki page change? The link above https://www.openproject.org/projects/task-connector/wiki/Wiki shows a 404.
I tried to use the task connector for an export of the timeline. But when testing the connection, only three of four tests are successful. The last one says, that it’s not able to receive the project list, because the authentication at https://url.of.my.openproject/api/v3 failed.

Any hints on this or if there is another wiki page or documentation about the task connector?

have a look at the comment from Jan Sandbrink ( two comments above yours, https://community.openproject.org/topics/1538?r=4088#message-4088 )

The Task Connector in its current version is not compatible with OpenProjects that require authentication.

some time ago the OpenProject instance formerly running under www.openproject.org was moved to community.openproject.org

This also affected the page mentioned by you. The Task Connector project should be available under: https://community.openproject.org/projects/task-connector

What’s interesting: I have no problems accessing the link you posted. Please tell me if the link I gave you also gives a 404 for you, or if that one works as intended.

Regarding the connectivity issues: A new version of the Task Connector should be released soon-ish, which will fix the afforementioned problem (among other stability improvements).

This one https://community.openproject.org/projects/task-connector leads me to the page which presents the downloads for Powerpoint, MS Project and the Quickstart Guide PDF. I guess there is nothing more than this page and the quickstart guide as PDF? Well, as it works now when I deactivate authentication for the minutes when using the task connector, I don’t need more guides :D

Unfortunately printing the Gantt chart from the Work Packages module on paper or PDF is not great yet and needs to get more attention somewhen (Hello sponsors!). It seems like no browser dev team puts much focus into it and put their energy into on screen rendering instead. And I personally think that this is a wise decision.
