Loggin time for other users?

Hi Open Project Community, 

I was just wondering if within the software it is possible to log time for another user? And if so.. how ?

We have a staff member who is currently away on holiday and we need to log his time that he has missed/forgotten to log

Any help would be great.

Possible workarounds (mainly meant for logging time in future situations):

  • Log in as the other user.
  • Set up a cost type (e.g."developer hours" or "John Smith") for unit costs and use this to log time (as unit cost) for others.
  • Add a comment with the user's name in the time logging modal. If you want to see the comment in the time and costs module you will have to remove all selections for columns and rows.
  • Use the "Activity" drop down menu to choose a user (you can add their names in the system administration). Then you could use the time and costs module to filter for or sort by "Activity".
  • Create a work package as a dummy. It should have a special status so that it can be reliably excluded in time reporting. For this work package, each user for whom times are to be booked by others (e.g. project managers) creates several entries (time bookings) with sample values in advance. Subsequently, the project manager can assign these time entries to another work package if required and enter the actual effort.

can I log in as placeholder user? No. And log in as the other user means I need the password - do u have another workaround?

It would be great, if there was a permission on project-level to allow logging of time for placeholder users. That way, one could assign this permission to different roles (maybe by default to the role "Staff and project manager").
