Repo Module Question

Hi,

I am a bit new to open project, currently I am experimenting with it, and it seems that during installation I did not enable the git module, or at least I think so.  Can this be the reason I can not create a local git repository during project creation? If so can I change this behavior?

PS: importing github remote repositories works quite well, the question is how to add now local repositories?
