**Approach:**

* [ ] CLA
* [ ] <mention class="mention" data-id="42086" data-type="user" data-text="@Wieland Lindenthal">@Wieland Lindenthal</mention> Clarify how is necessary
* [ ] Code review of the existing GitLab plugin
* [x] [ ] Setting it up with some GitLab account
* [x] [ ] Check security aspects
* [x] [ ] Find out what crucial/vital tests are missing
* [ ] Coming up with a migration path for existing plugin installations ###53220
* [x] [ ] Write tests
* [x] [ ] Only the most vital ones. Keeping in mind that this code is already in production on some people's servers. It should work.
* [ ] Write basic setup docs for admins.
* [x] ~~Consolidate [ ] Consolidate with GitHub integration and remove code duplication, wherever it is worth it.~~ it.

**Out of scope:**
