### **Environment**:

Your OpenProject Version: 11.0.1 / community Edition

Operating System / Browser / OpenProject language: ubuntu 18, firefox, english

### **Steps to reproduce:**

1. Make a user story (a work package), eg #1 , set it to a sprint version
2. Make another work package #1
3. Set #2 to the same version
4. Decide that #2 is in fact a sub-task of #1, hence remove its version
5. Try to assess #2 's parent as #1

### **Actual Behavior**

Parent cannot be set. Error popup "Version must be the same as the parent story's version"

### **Expected Behavior**

Grant parent definition :-)

### **Other possibly related**

From the task board view. When clicking + on a user story (to create a sub-task), fill subject, press 'OK'. Then I get the same error message, and OP gets stuck (trying to create this work package) until I reload the page (of course the new WP is not created).

Back to main issue, if I don't do steps 3 & 4, the parent relationship can be created, but if I want to edit #2 tag eg from `None` to `Task`, the same error pops up, I cannot edit #2 anymore.

**Globally when trying to organize existing work packages, I am completely stuck using backlogs.**

Could be related to #28962  and #34841

Thanks
